Fashionable at home

First of all, I must apologize for what has been going on this week. I don't know what has happened, but since last Monday I only could check my blog (or any other blog) yesterday night, I guess it must be some problem with the server, so I couldn't update this week. As I was the whole week without blogging I was trying to think in something useful for this post, and here you are, slippers. Something so essential, especially in the winter, when you are more time at home. I got to think about the design, I despite I don't like Burberry a lot, theirs were the best:

The slippers include the lovely bag, and they are a special promotion for Christmas! If they hadn't written slippers down, I think I probably would have thought they were flats, they are lovely! I've chosen the last pair because I think they are pretty versatile, and girlish, something necessary when you are wearing menly, old-fashioned pyjamas;)

New Year's Eve Series- 2

In 35 days it will be New Year's Eve. I am looking forward to getting dress for that day. It's everything so charming, the lights on the streets, the drunkenness of most of the people, the everybody-loves-everybody thing, I think in that day everybody forgets -for a few hours- the bad vibrations and enjoys partying. Last week I got inspired by what Caroline Lange said about Brazil and the fact that they all wear white on that day. Obviously, the Twenties are the other source of inspiration.

Seven things, maybe interesting...

I've been tagged by Heather, from Tango, Pirates, and Absinthe.(thanks) I have been thinking about what to write, and it's a really difficult and complicated! I guess probably it's not going to be the best I could write, but anyway, if you want to know something more about me, just continue reading:

1. I love reading. In my handbag there is always a book, now I am reading Mr. Chomsky. I love reading since I learnt how to do it. When I was a child people from my class were punished with no tv, and I was punished with no reading at night. Funny, isn't it?

2. I hate going out and getting up early the next day. Here in Spain it's normal going out at 12p.m and arrive home 6-7 a.m, so when you go out on Thursdays (people from the Unis normally do it)... and you have compulsory lessons on Friday at 9 a.m, it's quite complicated... That's why I have decided going out only during the weekend.

3. One of the things I have learnt in my degree -journalism- is carrying always a notebook and a pen, and lately, it has been very useful, because you can have ideas in any place... and then you forget about it, so having one of this it's quite good. I have gone to a conference of a stylist and she strongly recommend that too, so I guess is useful for a lot of careers...

4. I buy fashion magazines compulsively, and I try to buy international issues which are quite expensive here... so I spend a lot of money in magazines each month and my mum is not very happy with that, anyway... they are useful to practice my foreign languages skills (hihihi)

5. I hate going to the hairdresser, seriously. They never know what I want, so I always go out from there wondering: why they did this to me? The best thing is when I go only to get combed, but not to cut my hair... Then is when the problems begin. It's really annoying too because despite they have magazines, it's impossible reading anything because everybody is talking!

6. Travelling is all what I want at the moment. This year (hopefully) I will finish my degree, so I hope to have some time to travel around. I'd like to visit a friend in Corea, but I am still saving, because the tickets are sooo expensive!

7. I love playing basketball. It's my favourite sport, and sometimes I wish I could travel often to the US to watch NBA matches! Hopefully some day I will be able to go and watch one, at least! BTW, my team... L.A. Lakers, I guess not a lot of people like Bryant nowadays, but he is still my favourite player, he was the one -together with Jordan, of course- who make me understand better the magic of this sport

Now, the 7 I have chosen:

Allure
Biting the Hand that Feeds
Coco's Tea Party
Crossover Aesthetics
Je Ne Sais Quoi
Mode et Utopie
Power Rangers Go

A tutu for your ears

I am not a fan of jewelry, I like it, but I don't invest a lot on it. The first reason is probably
because I always forget (not for a night out) wearing earrings. Most of the times I am late, so I don't have time to think in jewelry... I only wear proper jewelry when I am going out. Daily, I prefer funny and not expensive jewelry, because I am prone to loosing things...
I have found this cute and lovely earrings which reminds me how nice cheap jewelry can be:

Are you kidding me?

It must be a joke. I am indignant at the December issue of Spanish mag Telva. It's not the best of the Spanish mag market but anyway, it's normally ok. Yesterday I went to the news-stand to buy my Vogue, when suddenly... she was there, looking at me. Claudia Schiffer, the top of the tops, on the cover of Telva. The clutch seems familiar.... to anybody who has seen the Accessorize 2006 ad campaign, because, for your surprise!!!!! the picture is the same. I am disappointed and shocked, it's a disaster! December issues are normally coveted... I don't know how it could happen, I can't help wondering if is it even legal?

Anyone from the UK must have seen this ad last year, my Godness, I am still shocked

Still an inspiration- Abaété

I was checking out for second time the spring/summer collections, and I tried not to check the obvious designers, so I went to Vogue site and I clicked on Abaété. It's based on NYC, but the designer has connections with Brazil and Paris. I have to say I like their designs a lot, pretty simple, clean cuts, pastel colours, black and white. Also the textures, which seem so fresh for the summer; and then, I realised why, during all the time I was looking at that collection, I was feeling I had already seen it, but in another place.

Maybe they get their inspiration for this catwalk watching Sex and the City, season 3.

New Year's Eve Series- 1

The most celebrated night of the year needs a special outfit. New Year’s Eve is not really far, so I’ve started thinking about garments for that day, and every Monday I'd offer you a different selection. The colour which always triumph is, obviously, black. Metallic fabrics are a must-have this winter so having them in the dress would be interesting. This sandals can help to be the best-dressed of the party, so delicated and special, with those silk strips which prolong your legs to the infinite. Tights, better opaque. I think I don’t have to say anything about the clutch. The alice band would make more femenine the outfit.

Manolo, awarded by the Queen

It's ironic. He is from Spain and in general, Spanish people barely know him (maybe it's because he and his designs don't appear as much as they must to in Spanish mags). The latest shop he opened was in his own country, in Madrid, two years ago, and he is on the business from the Seventies (which in part proves my theory about Spanish and the interests for him). He is one the best shoe-maker ever. My first post in this blog was for him, the great Manolo Blahnik, because he knows how to make a woman dream, only with a pair of shoes, isn't it amazing?

Thanks to his timeless and shameless pieces he became one of the most succesful designers ever. He was awarded honorary CBE (Commander of the British Empire) by the Queen in recognition of his status as one of the most successful and influential designers of our time. (As a Spaniard he is not eligible for the full accolade). He has never had any training in shoe-making, and he is responsible for the design of all his creations.

Mr Purnell, Culture Secretary, said:
“Manolo Blahnik is one of only a handful of designers whose name is synonymous with their product. His avant garde designs mixed with timeless classics. By basing his business in London, Mr Blahnik has played a huge part in enhancing the reputation of the capital as a leading fashion industry centre.”

Mr Blahnik said:
"It is the greatest privilege to have been appointed by Her Majesty the Queen to receive such an honour for my small contribution to the fashion industry in Britain. I'll always be proud and grateful for it."

* All the declarations are from:

Government Department of Culture

He has received more international prizes, and I'd like to point out the Special Awarded by the CFDA, Balenciaga Award and Neiman Marcus from USA. He was named doctor "Honoris Causa" by the Royal Academy of Arts (London) and the Aguja de Oro (Spain -"gold needle") among too many more.

Fashion mags in Spain

I am doing a research work for my Uni. It consists in knowing a lot of things about some Spanish newspapers. When I went to the official site to check out the audience, I couldn't help but wonder how many people would read Vogue in Spain, so I checked it out too. My surprise... Here you have the figures:

(All the figures are from January '06 to December '06)

.........................414.795 issues printed

...........................312.450 issues printed

...........................231.333 issues printed

......................220.333 issues printed

.......................211.331 issues printed

.....................180.372 issues printed

I was so sad when I knew Vogue is the last one in that list. I think they are the best (from this list) offering high-quality fashion. Maybe there are not so many people interested in fashion, because the rest of the mags offer fashion but also too many other things (sex, travel, cooking, some gossip...). What do you think?

A lovely pet

I have some kind of crush on chihuahuas. These tiny dogs are really lovely. I know this is a fashion blog, and you didn't expect to watch something like this in a place like this, but I couldn't avoid it, I swear. I know is such a posh dog, but I really love the idea of a pet you can carry without hurt your back. They are between 2-6 pounds (1-3kg.) and 15-23 cm. My boyfriend used to say we can't have one because these dogs are so small that maybe he steps on it and he kills it. Apart from his jokes (I am sure we will have one in the future), I just want to say I adore these tiny dogs, the only thing which stops me from having one, is that Paris has already hers.

By the way, if you have a lovely dog, you have to have a lovely pet-carrier:

I don't like a lot LV bags, but I am sure my pet would be very comfortable in this one.

Mango Fashion Awards

The Mango Fashion Awards were celebrated for first time last week in Barcelona. The winners were Sandrina Fasoli and Michaël Marson.

Their collection was called "Memories on eyes" and the prize were 300,000 euros, the best fashion award ever. They don't have own shop yet, but they sell their garments in Europe, USA, and Corea. They presented their first collection in Paris in 2005. Transparencies were the best of these 10 looks they showed for the Mango Award. All the finalists presented very commercial looks, they didn't risk at all. Sandrina didn't rule out collaborating with Mango in the future.

Italian designer Valentino was the president of the jury, and the winner of the "Gold Bottom" for his career. He came with Liz Hurley, who said she wants to design for Mango too.

Ups, she did it again

She did it again. Carrie Bradshaw is launching a new revolution. I really missed her outfits, her extravagant sense of style, and his soul of trendsetter. In the film of Sex and the City, she appears with this look, innovative, modern and cool. I love this puff-ball skirt. It is eye-catching and edgy. I am happy to know Carrie keeps her style intact.

Armani Tower

Giorgio Armani has opened last Monday his own Tower in Tokyo. Its located in the elegant area of Ginza, where all the luxury shops are. This building, which has approximately 6,000 square metres, has a huge shop, a restaurant, and it includes a beauty and relax centre. Armani said that"it was inspired in the Roman flasks". A lot of international personalities went to the inauguration. I've always known fashion and beauty go together, but nowadays the frontier between them is disappearing. You can go to that shop, buying expensive clothes, having lunch, and having beauty treatments, everything from the same designer! Would you rely more on Armani than in La Mer? I understand he is an excellent designer, but why do we trust him when it is about our face and not about our wardrobe? Why do we criticize celebs who become designers, and we don't criticize designers who become "beauty gurus"?

About the poll

Last week I had a poll in my blog. The question (you still can see it) was if you use animal fur. I was expecting less Yes answers than No. However, you have chosen 6/6, so I couldn't come to any conclusion. Everything started because I felt offended by Vogue Spain. When I bought the November issue, I read in the cover that animal fur was on again. I couldn't help but wonder how they dare to publish that in the cover, knowing there is a sector in the fashion world who is against the use of animal fur (I am not sure about that any more). Through the issue, they try to convince you that you are nobody if you don't wear animal fur coats this winter.
I was really sure I don't use animal fur. But it's false. I don't buy animal fur coats, however, most of my shoes are made with leather. I don't buy animal fur coats, however, my watchstrap is made with leather. I don't buy animal fur coats, but my belts are made with leather. After this, I don't feel honest any more pretending I don't buy animal fur. Because apparently, I do.

Vogue's soldiers.USA

Filipa Fino is the Senior Accessories Editor of US Vogue. She is portuguese but she is settled down in NYC for more than a decade. She had worked for Harper's Bazaar magazine too, among others respectable publications. You can check out her work on style.com. She has a clear style, classy and elegant. She does not seem to like risky pieces. Accesories, obviously, are the most important part of her looks.

My little dream

When I was a child I used to dream about dresses for free. I had the perfect dream (I dreamt about it more than 10 times, what it's weird) of going to a department store, such as Harrods, and have five minutes to take everything I could, for free!! I was checking net-a-porter last night, and I suddenly remember that dream. Here I leave you some of them, and you judge:

Oscar de la Renta, 3.744 euros, I love all his garments, they are so femenin, elegant and classy, I can't deny, he is my favourite.

Herve Ledger, 1666 euros, I love the simplicity of the dress, and how intelligently he combines the colours to hide big hips and show a balance figure.

McQueen, 1295 euros, what make me desire it was the cut, so clean and at the same time so chic.

Marchesa, 893 euros. I know baby-doll dresses are not as cool as they were, but I couldn't resist the charming of this one.

Gucci S/S-07 collection. Pic from Vogue UK

Marc by Marc Jacobs, 595 euros. I couldn't help but wonder, why Marc's garment is so similar to Gucci's summer '07 dresses? I mean, the design it's almost the same, and he is such a talented designer, I don't get it.

Christian Lacroix, 2500 euros. I don't know if I really like this dress, but I think it's interesting, and eye-catching, so despite maybe I wouldn't wear it, I think it deserves to be here.

Stella McCartney, 1395 euros. I love these pleats, I love the colour and I love the cut. Any woman would be a goddness in it.

The last picture has to be for him. Oscar de la Renta, 2837 euros. If my little dream would become true, I will spend the five minutes in De la Renta boutique. His designs do not have any mistake, they are perfect. Any woman, does not matter her body-shape, looks amazing in his designs.
